Unit 5. POPULATION AND TERRITORY

 Tuesday, 10th of January 2023

Hi again friends! I am here again to learn with you while we are having fun!

In this unit we will learn about poblation and territory. Cool, isn't it? But first I want you to meet my friend.

Hi Poké-students!  My name is Minccino, and I am so excited to be with you this day!

I am going to help you to know better the place where we live. Let's start!

    1. The population and its distribution.

1.1. The worl population.

First of all, do you know how many people live on the Earth? Around 7000 millions people! It's amazing! But we all cannot live in the same place because we wouldn't fit, that's why there are different continents where people are distribuated.

Pikachu told me that you already know the name of the continents, so let's see!

ACTIVITY 1. Match the name to its continent:

- Europe                    - America

-Africa                        - Asia

- Oceania                   - Antarctica

1.2. The distribution of the territory.

As we said before, not all the people live it the same place, people live spread over six continents but they don't have the same number of inhabitants. Do you know why?

First, I want you to know some of my friends:

Hi! I am Florgers. My friends and I live in the flat areas of the country side because here it is easier to cultivate. Even though I live in the country side, the flat area facilitates as well the life in the city, because it makes easier to build.

Hi! I am Glaceon. Did you know that I can regulate my own temperature? I am never hot or cold because of that, can you control your temperatura as well?

Oops, someone has just told me that you can't.... well, don't worry because the beach also regulates the temperature, so you can live close to it!

Hi everyone! I am Vaporeon. As I am a water Pokémon, I live in the river because it gives me all the water I need to live! But water Pokémons are not the only ones that needs water, everyone needs it!

Hey! I am Lillipup. I moved to the city two months ago because my mother found a job here (cities have so many work options!). Here there are a lot of buses and trains that can get me wherever I want in a second! Also, here there are a lot of buildings and services, so it is really good.

Well, now that you have known my friends and the characteristic of the places where they live... I think that you are ready to do this activity:)

ACTIVITY 2. Choose the right answer.

 1. We need water to live, that's why people use to live near/far away from rivers.

2. The beach regulates the temperature, that's why there are more people living near/far away from the cost.

3. Areas with flat terrain make it easier to cultivate land and build buildings, that's why people don't prefer/prefer to live in flat areas.

4. In cities there are more services, better communications and more opportunities to find work, that's why people prefer living in cities/in the country

Learning about my city

 Wednesday, 11h of January 2023

Hi again, Poké-students!
Minccino told me that yesterday you learnt about the unequal distribution of the world's population and its reasons. Well... it happens the same in Europe! The European population is also unequally distributed because of the same reasons. Easy to renember, right?

Wait... someone is coming!

Prepare for trouble...
...and make it double!
To protect the world from devastation!
To unite all peoples within our nation!
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie!
James!
Team Rocket, blasting off at the speed of light!
Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth! That's right.

We know that you are learning about the population... but you haven't studied anything about cities! Don't you think that it is already time to know about some of them?

We are here to help you with that! We are going to tell you a little more about the place we live. Then, you will have to do the same. It is time for you to do a research about your city!

Let's get into it!

We live in the Realgam Tower, that is located in Realgam. Even though it can seem an small city, for me it is really good! In Realgam there are 360.000 inhabitants, and here we have a lot of opportunities to find a job because there are a lot of job offers. Also, we can travel everywhere we want to because there are a lot communications, for example, we have buses that can get us everwhere. We also have services: two hospitals, three police stations, a fire station, and a lot more. For having fun, we have a lot of places were we can go, our favourite places are the beach and the cinema!

The weather is always really nice because we have a beach, that regulates the temperature, and we have flat areas, so we can cultivate and build all the builing needed.

Here you have a picture of Realgam.

Now, it is your turn!

Tell me everything about your city and draw it! Look at the words in bold to help you know what you have to write. Take a picture and send it to my e-mail.

Good luck!

Why the population varies

 Friday, 13th of January 2023

Hello! Yesterday you learnt about the Team Rocket's city and also about yours. Are you ready for a new learning day? Let's do it!

For today's lesson, I want yo to meet another friend.

Hi Poké-students! I am Teddiursa and today you are going to learn with me about why the population varies. Let's start!

 2. Why does the population varie?

First of all, I want you to know a little more about about where I live.

I am the mayor of the Silver City. Would you like to live here? It is a big city with flat areas close to the sea, and it has 700.000 pokemons living here. In the last month, we have had 23 emigrations (pokemons that have left the city), but 30 immigrations (pokemons that are new in our city). Also in the last month, 28 pokemon have died, but 60 have been born.

So, as you can notice, our population has variated because of the natural growth and the migration growth, do you want to know the exact number? Let´s calculate the real growth.

As you can see, this mean that there has been an increase in the population of 39 pokemon.

Now I want you to do a quick kahoot to see if you have learnt all this terms that I have shown you!

To finish this new learning, I am going to ask you some questions about the variation of my city in the last three months considering all the types of pokémon that live here.

 Now, answer the following questions:

1.- How many pokemon have been born in the city during these three months?
2.- How many pokemon have died in the city during these three months?
3.- Calculate the natural growth of this population.

4.- How many pokemon have migrated out of the city in the last three months?
5.- How many pokemon have immigrated into the city during these three months?
6-. Calculate the migration growth of this population.

7-. Calculate the real growth of this population.

Census and register

 Tuesday, 17th of January 2023

Hello! Teddiursa told me that last day you learnt about the changes in the population that, as you already know, are because of the natural growth and the migration growth. For today's training I want you to meet my cousin.

Hi Poké-students, I am Skitty. I am so happy to be with you today! I have had an idea, why don't you create your own register and census?

Ooops, I think I am going too fast, I will explain everything slower if you click here.

Now that you know this, it is time for you to create your own register and census. Click here

Well, that was all for today, I hope you learnt a lot! Byeeee friends!

What the population is like

 Wednesday, 18th of January 2023

Hello! Yesterday you learnt with Skitty about the register and the census, are you ready for a new learning with another of my friends?

Hi Poké-students! I am Blissey and today we are going to learn about what the population is like.

Let´s go!

    3.What is the population like?

First, I would like you to do this quiz that I have prepared for you! Click here

Woow! You are really good and you know all these concepts really good! Let's get into something more challenging for you... it is time for you to see a real population pyramid! Here it is the Population Pyramid that my students did last year about their school:

If we analyse this pyramid, we can realise that the school had:

To end this session, I want you to create a population pyramid
(you also have to create a table with all the data) from the following statement:

In my school there are a total of 292 students, 152 of them are boys and 140 are girls that are distributed like this:

            - Twelve 6-years-old boys and eight 6-years-old girls

            Twenty-two 7-years-old boys and twenty-eight 7-years-old girls

            Twenty-two 8-years-old boys and twenty 8-years-old girls

            - Thirty-two 9-years-old boysand twenty 9-years-old girls

            - Twenty-four 10-years-old boys and twenty 10-years-old girls

            - Twenty- four 11-years-old boys and thirty-two 11-years-old girls

            - Sixteen 12-years-old boys  and twelve 12-years-old girls

This is all for today! You did a really good job, keep doing like this! Byeee

Review part 1

 Tuesday, 24th of January 2023

Hi!! Yesterday you learnt with Delcathy about the spanish population and its variation, are you ready for today?

Hi Poké-students! How are you? Is this unit easy for you? Well, my friends told me that you are doing a really good job! With me we are just going to do a review, easy peassy! Oops, I forgot to introduce myself, I am Tracey, and I am a Poké-trainer, do you want to become a poké-trainer aswell, then let's start!

To do a review of this unit, I have thought about creating your own city, how does it sound for you? And what if I tell you that you will be the mayor of this city? Well, you have a lot of responsability now, but I am sure that you will do a good job and I will help you in everything you need! Are you ready? Let's start!!!

Here you have some information that you have to put. To see it more clear and with more information, click here and press de "+" emoji of each title.

Now you will be thinking... "Where do I have to write all this information?" Well, you have to make a card poster and then present it to the rest of your class, so everyone could see your Poké-city! The card poster can be however you want, but it has to include the information that I have just shown you.

Start this in this class and finish it at home! You have all the weekend to do this, I am sure that you will do a good job!

See you on tuesday!

Review part 2

 Wednesday, 25th of January 2023

Hi again!! Have you done your card poster? I can't wait to see it! To follow an order, we are going to start with  the first child on the list and we will finish with the last one. Let´s start with your presentation!

In your speech, you will have to explain shortly all the information that I asked you last friday (in that order).

After each presentation, you have to say all the things that you like about that city!

Later, you can decide which is your favourite one!

Wooooow, you did a really good job! I am sure that you will pass this Poké-training! Keep doing like this, you are going to be a really good Poké-trainer! I am so proud of you!

Well, what do you think of this video? Do you agree with them? Talk between all you classmates about this!

Now, each one of you create a short story about beace, and make a drawing that represents peace.

Finally, as a whole class, write on a large card all the words that mean peace to each of you and add some of your drawings to the card.

So beautiful! If all of us help bulding the world to be a better place, there won't be any wars but peace!
